Comforting Verses

When I am feeling stressed, anxious, sad, or complete anguish, I like to read verses that remind me that I am not alone in feeling that way. I am not the first person, nor the last, to feel low moods. Neither are you. That’s why there are so many verses for us to turn to during rough times.

When your heart is troubled, whether it is a bit of anxiety or the depths of despair, here are some verses that will speak to your heart. Some of them will help describe how you feel and provide comfort because they are relatable. And the rest are wonderful Scriptures to meditate on for hope, encouragement and healing.

My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

I cried out to the Lord because of my affliction, and He answered me. The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; the deep closed around me; weeds were wrapped around my head. The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer went up to You. Jonah 2:2, 5-7

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. And He led them forth by the right way. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness. Psalm 107:6-9

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Luke 6:21

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust. Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge. His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35, 38-39

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. Psalm 4:1

He shall deliver you in six troubles. Yes, even in seven no evil shall touch you. Job 5:19

You could be steadfast and not fear. Because you would forget your misery, and remember it as waters that have passed away, and your life would be brighter than noonday. Though you were dark, you would be like the morning. And you would be secure, because there is hope. Job 11:15-18

Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:4-5

The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. Psalm 6:9

I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. Psalm 7:17

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, You have set Your glory above the heavens! When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of Him, and the son of man that You visit Him? Psalm 8:1, 3-4

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:9-10

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5

Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplications! The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:6-7

This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life. Psalm 119:50
