There is a God shaped hole, or void, in everyone’s heart. The old saying, “money can’t buy happiness” is a perfect example of this void. Humans are constantly searching for what makes them feel happy and fulfilled. While many things can legitimately contribute to our happiness, such as love, family, friends, pets, travel, work, weekends, activities, money, etc., there is only ONE thing can make us feel truly happy.
We have all heard that even the richest, most famous people on earth are often not happy. They have everything at their fingertips, and yet aren’t fulfilled. They keep searching for more, adding more to their lives: more fame, more money, more possessions, more travel, more sex, more partying, more drugs, more alcohol. They’re not happy with their spouse, so they trade him/her in for a new one. The scenarios go on and on. The motto is “more, more, more” because they are searching in vain for happiness. There is nothing on this earth, even in the greatest quantities, that can truly fill the void in the human heart. That’s why the search continues, every day trying to add new things to sustain the temporary high that they bring. This scenario is not just played out by the rich and famous. Every single human being on this planet is in search of filling that void in their hearts. That’s why everyone packs their lives with more possessions, aspires to have more money, jumps from relationship to relationship, and jams their schedule with entertainment and social events; we keep our lives in a cycle of moving on to the next thing to try to maintain a feeling of contentment, happiness fulfillment. Ironically, the answer for unwavering fulfillment is much simpler. So many people turn this into a lifelong, fruitless journey, when really the search could end if everyone would turn to the one true thing that can make them content and happy: a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Many who don’t know the Lord as their Savior laugh at this, scoff at the thought, get angry, stirred up, etc. and some even lash out against Christians. But people who give it proper thought will be able to piece it together instead of instantly rejecting it. When we let down our guard, ego, and the lies we have been told, God can reach us and open our eyes. We can feel in our hearts that this makes sense. I pray that the Lord will allow this to click for you. There has to be more than this life on earth. Why would we all just be here to be born, live, then die? What is so great about our daily lives that gives meaning to our existence? Nothing except recognition of the God of this universe, the bigger picture, & eternity!
But happiness only begins once this recognition and acceptance takes place. If you’re ready for it, if you believe it, then don’t waste another minute. Accept that you are a sinner, and ask the Lord to forgive your sins and be your Savior! Once you do that, everything changes. You begin a personal relationship with Him. You are His forever, and the Holy Spirit will live in you, guiding you in your Christian life. And your eyes will suddenly be open to what so many are blind to.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
